GeoNet successfully concluded by Final Workshop

without comments

GeoNet concluded its activity with its Final Workshop that took place 29 January 2010 in INRIA’s premises in Paris, France. IPv6 GeoNetworking was presented together with its link with the related ITS development in CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium, CVIS implementation and ETSI TC ITS standardization.

Moreover the functionalities of IPv6 GeoNetworking was shown in a real system including 3 cars, 2 road-side units and a control center. A (very simple) enhanced driver awareness application was demonstrated and numerous attendees could enjoy a ride to see the achievement.

The FP7-funded European project GeoNet designed, implemented, tested and pushed for standardization an IPv6 GeoNetworking architecture related to many other major initiatives like CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium and CVIS.

CAR 2 CAR Demonstration

without comments

Dudenhofen, Germany, 10/22/08 – In the course of its second international forum the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium, in short C2C-CC, has demonstrated manufacturer spanning applications of the Car-to-X-Communication system independent of vehicle-type to a worldwide public for the first time ever.

Results from related EU projects developing cooperative systems technology will be incorporate into future C2C-CC demonstrations as projects results become available. The BroadBit-contributed GeoNet project is a major anticipated building block, providing multi-hop geo-networked information delivery and its IPv6 integration.

With driving demonstrations at the testing areas of the Adam Opel GmbH cars, trucks and motorbikes of the manufacturers involved exemplify traffic situations where the Car-to-X-Communication system can particularly assist the driver, such as at urban crossroads with line-of-sight obstruction where motorbikes, emergency vehicles are approaching Even at construction sites and in situations involving breakdown vans, Car-to-X-Communications is very effective. In lectures and workgroups the participants of the meeting collectively discuss and elaborate the future of Car-to-X-Communication systems.

The world premier will be supported technically by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) who will evaluate the specifications and scenarios used during the interoperability demonstrations in relation to their potential for future use in standardization.

GeoNet: session accepted

without comments

The networked car: boosting early IPv6 adoption

Next generation of vehicles will be networked in order to exchange safety, non-safety and infotainment information with other vehicles, the roadside and peers in the Internet. Internet-based communications will rely on IPv6, the new version of the Internet Protocol, which is already in the product line of major vendors (networking devices and operating systems) and deployed in backbones (GEANT, OpenTransit,…)

IPv6 is already taking momentum in the automobile sector as could it be witnessed by the CVIS and GeoNet European projects and standardization activities by ISO TC204 WG16 (CALM architecture), ETSI, and the Car-to-Car Communication Consortium (C2C-CC).

Following the European Commission’s IPv6 action plan issued in May 2008, the objective of the session is to discuss how IPv6 know-how could be best developed in Europe.

The session will gather speakers from:
The GeoNet project
The CVIS project
European Commission
